Features

hylOs Feature List
Multiple views and designs:
Separation of content, logic and layout by applying XML technologies on a large scale. Appearance of the system could be easily customized. eLearning contents could be rendered to various output formats, including eg. HTML or PDF.
Different content access structures:
Contents could be accessed in different ways. Beside a hierarchical tree view representing the 'natural' order, HyLOS provides an instructional view (manually created by the author or an instructional designer) and a constructivist content exploration visualization.
Distributed plattform independant authoring environment:
Highly integrated authoring environment allows for a WYSIWYG like editing of XML contents and give the authors easily access to the full LOM metadata set if desired. In addition it includes a tool for creating instruction paths.
Mathematical formulae support:
LaTeX formulae can be easily inserted into content structures and will be automatically transformed to MathML for markup languages or images for printable output formats.
Semantic aware processing layer:
hylOs builds a semantic network of qualified inter-object relations harvested from the LOM relation section. The network is evaluated in order to provide content suggestions to learners or authors.
Semi-manual content acquisition:
Lessons recorded in lecture halls are transformed into raw, classified eLearning objects.
Full access to the LOM meta data set:
In contrast to many other authoring applications hylOs provides full access to the complete LOM meta data set, inculding editing of educational context vectors.
Adaptive context aware linking system:
Links and anchors are handled being first level object having their own expressiveness and are stored separated from the content. Both authors as well as learners may select collection of links based on their contextual meaning.
