The main field of research in the international project SAFEST (Social-Area Framework for Early Security Triggers at Airports) is crowd control and the early detection of mass panic by a distributed sensor network. To securely route the collected data to its destination, for instance for distributed preprocessing, different routing protocols and security schemes are applicable. Hereby the use of the recently proposed Routing Protocol for Low-Power and Lossy Networks (RPL) is analyzed. This talk gives an overview of RPL and discusses its security features.
