Martine Lenders: The road to DNS over CoAP (Christmas Lecture)

This lecture gives an insight in the development process of the DNS over CoAP (DoC) protocol. From humble beginnings within the PIVOT IoT research project, research papers that developed and evaluated the underlying technologies, to starting my first IETF Internet Draft about it. I describe what happens if you bring a protocol that spans multiple IETF working groups, the endless IETF and research discussions spinning out of that, to new ideas that started from DoC.
I provide our motivation for designing DoC and how it works. After providing some insights into the work of the IETF process, I present results of our research. Finally, I will show the new application/dns+cbor message format, which even can be beneficial for the “big Internet” and the World Wide Web.
